Eligible customers can access cashless oncology treatment at Union Oncology Centre.

Prudential Hong Kong has expanded its Medical Expenses Direct Billing Service to cover eligible oncology treatment at Union Hospital's Union Oncology Centre, allowing eligible customers to receive approved cancer care without paying covered medical expenses upfront.

The insurer said the move expands its existing partnership with Union Hospital and gives eligible customers access to direct billing for oncology-related treatment at the centre.

Eligible customers can consult the Union Oncology Centre before treatment to obtain cost estimates. The centre will assist in submitting pre-approval requests to Prudential where, once approved, Prudential will settle eligible medical expenses directly with the centre after treatment.

"We aim to ease the psychological and financial pressure on customers during treatment, giving them peace of mind so they can focus on combating cancer," said Candy Au Yeung, chief customer operations and health officer for Prudential.

According to Prudential's 2025 Individual Life Claims Report, cancer was the leading cause of both critical illness and death claims last year.

The insurer also cited data from the Hong Kong Hospital Authority showing that a new cancer case is diagnosed in Hong Kong every 14 minutes on average. Before the age of 75, the lifetime risk of developing cancer is 25% for men and 20% for women.

Assistant chief hospital manager of Union Hospital Yannie Soo said the partnership combines oncology care with insurance support to reduce patients' financial concerns and simplify the claims process.

Director of Union Oncology Service of Union Hospital Harry Cheng said the collaboration expands access to radiotherapy, drug therapy, specialist consultations, nutritional counselling and psychological support through the centre.
